ABSTRACT

The objective of this study is to prospectively examine the incidence of complete response, recurrence and progression in patients with superficial transitional cell carcinoma [TCC] after complete transurethral resection of bladder tumour [TUR-BT] and adjuvant intravesical Bacillus Calmette Guerin [BCG] instillation. patients with Ta, Tl either grade 2 or 3 superficial bladder carcinoma were included in this study. Complete TUR-BT was done, followed by intravesical BCG instillation. The instillation schedule was 6 weekly instillation of 80 mg BCG followed by 3 weekly instillation at months 3,6,12,18,24,30 and 36. There was a total of 116 studied patients, in the period between July 1994 and December 1997. 48 patients had TaG2, 24 TaG3, 26 T1G2, and 18 T1G3. Complete response was observed in 96 patients [83%], recurrence inl3 [11%] and progession in 7 [6%]. In patients with intermediate and high grades Ta or Tl superficial bladder tumours, immunotherapy with intravesical BCG following TUR-BT appears to provide significant advantage over TUR-BT alone in delaying tumour recurrence and progression

ABSTRACT

In this study, a total of 112 patients underwent Mustardee operation in single stage and carried out by one surgeon. The patients age ranged from three to 16 years with a mean of five years. All patients had middle-penile hypospadias [30 distal-penile, 68 mid-penile and 14 proximal penile types]. The mean range of the follow up was 32 [12-48] months. The follow up confirmed the validity of modified Mustarde operation for correcting a large number of middle penile hypospadias. It is technically easy, reliable and offers a relatively low complication rate. It also yields good cosmetic results. Its use was recommended for primary and secondary repair of middle penile hypospadias

ABSTRACT

In this study, pubovaginal fascial slings were successfully used in the treatment of stress urinary incontinence [SUI] due to intrinsic sphincter deficiency. The results of pubovaginal fascial sling taken from rectus sheath for treatment of all types of SUI and the effect of obesity on the surgical result were assessed. The records of 61 women with SUI underwent pubovaginal fascial sling [43 women of normal weight and 18 obese women] were retrospectively reviewed. The results indicated that the success rate was 90.7% in normal weight women and 72.2% in obese women. It was concluded that pubovaginal fascial sling was an effective surgical treatment for all types of SUI whether primary or recurrent. Obesity gave poor results in women underwent this procedure
